As the world becomes more globalized, the goal to ensure inclusivity in education face more challenge along with the increase number of children of high mobility parents or the Third Culture Kid (TCK). Exposed to a diverse cultures and languages in their developmental years, TCK or “global nomads” often disadvantaged by getting education in different countries that always requires them to adapt in a new environment and language, different curricula, and foreign culture of studying.

Hayden (2012) noted that these problems often lead TCKs to make up the population of international schools. But this is just a case for some. The high expense of international schools does not appear on hand for TCK from low-income migrants. Thus, to be able to create inclusiveness education for TCKs, it is necessary to provide two solutions as follows.

First, establish a language-assistance along with improving qualified bilingual teachers in local schools. This helps TCKs to build a basic understanding about how they could receive full information on their studies. Considering this solution in a simpler way, the second solution is to strengthen the community of TCKs. This helps TCKs to obtain not only a sense of togetherness but also a voice to be heard whereas their perspective on education could be considered by stakeholders and governments to secure education accessibility for broader community. Along with the advancement of social media today, this method become effective to run by TCKs. In conclusion, this short essay suggests that the goal of quality education should include a recognition for TCKs by creating an inclusive and equitable way of studying.

How’s your thought on TCK?
